Francesco Gelati has been recently appointed Chair of the Scientific Committee of Transformations: A DARIAH Journal. Transformations is a multilingual journal created in 2024 by DARIAH ERIC, dedicated to providing a trusted, non-commercial platform for documenting various methodological and research activities in arts and humanities, including data gathering and processing, annotation and modeling, analysis and interpretation.
Transformations has recently published the first set of peer-reviewed articles in its inaugural issue, dedicated to the theme of Workflows. This milestone marked not only the successful launch of a publishing venture by DARIAH, but also our shared commitment to cultivating a scholarly culture grounded in methodological transparency, workflow reusability, and open science.
“I am truly honoured to have been appointed as Chair of the Transformations Scientific Committee” said Mr. Gelati. “My gratitude and thankfulness go to all members of the Committee as well as to the whole Transformations team, who are working hard: the first issue with its beautiful design and excellent articles leaves no doubt on that. Together with them, I will do my best so that Transformations presents best-quality works on all digital research activities in the arts and humanities.”
The Scientific Committee is composed of academics from outside the Editorial Board (EB) whose subdomains/subfields cover, as far as possible, the disciplines and topics represented in the journal. The Committee contributes, in collaboration with the EB, to ensuring the quality of the journal’s scientific content. Its members participate in the evaluation process and are responsible for carrying out the assessment of the contents themselves.
“As an archivist working on digital preservation, I will strive to see in the journal contributions on managing and maintaining digital objects” added Mr. Gelati. “Also, I see my role in making communication and cooperation between the Scientific Committee and the Editorial Board smooth and proficuous, especially as long as peer-reviewing is concerned.”
Looking ahead, Transformations will soon introduce an ambitious and innovative reviewing process for different types of submission, with particular attention to non-traditional research outputs. The journal will also soon release its second call for articles, on the theme of “The Past”, inspired by the DARIAH Annual Event 2025 recently held in Göttingen. The call will include updated guidelines and recommendations to support authors through the submission process.
“Concerning the foreseeable future, I look forward to seeing the first contributions to be published in a language other than English, making Transformations a truly multilingual journal” concluded Mr. Gelati.
