The launch of the Publish, Review, Curate (PRC) Alliance took place on 28 October 2026 at the online event “Publish, Review, Curate (PRC): Shaping the future of scholarly publishing”. The event introduced the Alliance, a joint initiative of COAR and ASAPbio which aims to strengthen coordination across the growing number of PRC initiatives, enhance their visibility, and provide a common voice to advocate for the PRC model with different stakeholders. DARIAH-EU is among the 'PRC Implementers’, organisations such as repositories, preprint servers, peer review services, journals, publishers, and curation services.
At the launch of the PRC Alliance, Toma Tasovac, Strategic Advisor to the DARIAH-EU Board of Directors, Principal Investigator of the ATRIUM project and editor-in-chief of the Transformations journal, presented the ATRIUM Peer Review Framework as an example of how assessment can be adapted to non-traditional research outputs.
Drawing on the experience of Transformations, DARIAH’s diamond open-access overlay journal, and the ATRIUM Peer Review Framework, which develops assessment criteria tailored to non-traditional research outputs such as datasets, workflows and training materials, Tasovac highlighted the practical and institutional challenges of making scholarly publishing more open, equitable and sustainable. He argued that transforming publishing practices requires more than changing the sequence of publication, review and curation.

“The ambition of the PRC Alliance must extend beyond the publishing workflow itself,” Tasovac said.

“Diamond open access, open peer review, public research infrastructures and research assessment reform need to advance together. We cannot fundamentally change scholarly communication without also changing the conditions that determine who can participate, whose contributions are recognized, and whether new publishing practices can become sustainable in the long term.”
