Strategy
The DARIAH Strategy 2027-2030 outlines four key strategic pillars, each with a specific priority: Technology, Knowledge, Communities, Policy.
Across all four pillars, DARIAH supports the responsible, transparent, and human-centred use of artificial intelligence in arts and humanities research. We promote approaches that enhance rather than replace scholarly expertise, ensuring that emerging technologies are deployed in ways that uphold academic rigour, ethical standards, openness, and the diversity of research practices across the arts and humanities.
Technology
At the heart of DARIAH’s technological vision is the ambition to make digital methods and tools a natural part of everyday research practice in the arts and humanities. As a researcher-focused infrastructure, DARIAH strives to foster the broad uptake and meaningful use of digital technologies across diverse communities, disciplines and career stages. DARIAH works towards a research ecosystem where data and tools are openly and sustainably available for collaborative, reproducible, and methods-driven inquiry. By encouraging openness, sustainability and reusability, DARIAH aims to empower researchers not only to use technology, but to shape it.
Knowledge
The Knowledge Pillar focuses on the creation, discussion, dissemination, and preservation of expertise in digital research methods across arts and humanities research. It foregrounds human capital as a critical component of research infrastructures and highlights DARIAH’s role in shaping and sharing domain-specific skills and knowledge. By fostering a culture of shared learning, this pillar ensures that knowledge remains a driving force for innovation and collaboration across DARIAH.
Communities
The Communities Pillar represents the strength of DARIAH’s distributed network, bringing together researchers, institutions, and national consortia. This Pillar focuses on fostering knowledge exchange, inclusivity, engagement and active participation, ensuring that DARIAH’s communities remain evolving, vibrant, interdisciplinary, and responsive to the evolving needs of digital humanities scholars across Europe and beyond.
Policy
Policy is an important strategic pillar for DARIAH, in today’s rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape. With Europe redefining its strategic outlook, DARIAH plays a critical role in representing the Arts and Humanities communities in the European Research Area (ERA), ensuring their voices inform and shape research debates. At the centre of DARIAH policy work is the value of Arts and Humanities in terms of social impact, cultural resilience, and democratic values. In the context of future funding opportunities such as the Framework Programmes, DARIAH is uniquely positioned to ensure that funding frameworks cover and support the full spectrum of SSH-related research.
