The DARIAH Board of Directors has approved the Gender Equality Plan (GEP) which can now be consulted on our website. The GEP was written by Anne Grésillon, DARIAH Administrative and Legal Officer with contributions from the DARIAH Board of Directors and the DARIAH Coordination Office.
The document formulates fields of action, objectives and measures to achieve equal participation of people in DARIAH irrespective of their gender identity. The DARIAH GEP is structured according to the five thematic areas suggested by the European Commission in order to promote gender equality in research and innovation:
- work-life balance and organisational culture
- gender balance in leadership and decision-making
- gender equality in recruitment and career progression
- integration of the gender dimension into research and teaching content
- measures against gender-based violence including sexual harassment
The GEP is divided into three main areas. The first section is dedicated to the description of a set of commitments and actions aiming to promote gender equality in DARIAH through organisational and cultural change. The following key areas have been identified in this section: improving the recruitment process, entrust prominent activities to women, raising awareness via dedicated training, combatting sexual harassment and supporting work-life balance.
The second section of this plan defines how the data is collected and on which basis is reviewed.
Finally, the third section assesses the current situation in DARIAH. Progress will be regularly monitored to ensure that gender equality principles are embedded in DARIAH’s organisational culture.
As part of its Strategic Action Plan, DARIAH is aiming not only to advance gender equality, but also to define a wider set of principles including aspects of dignity, respect, inclusion and access within the infrastructure. This is the first version of the GEP, to be assessed in the future to also include non-binary and gender fluid persons.
