DARIAH and PARTHENOS: Advancing Digital Cultural Heritage Research Together

By dariah | News | July 20, 2016

DARIAH, the digital research infrastructure consortium, is now an official partner of PARTHENOS.

The General Assembly of PARTHENOS decided on the new status last week. “We are delighted to now also officially become a part of PARTHENOS”, said DARIAH-EU’s CEO Mike Mertens referring to the fact that DARIAH circles also played a major role in initiating the project. “From the beginning of the project, we considered their work as very important. This is why we have already been cooperating with PARTHENOS very closely, with many people from DARIAH also being part of work packages in PARTHENOS. The decision of the General Assembly will now strengthen our bonds even further”, Mertens emphasized just after the meeting.

The General Assembly (GA) of PARTHENOS took place in Krakow, accompanying the DH2016, one of the world’s most important digital humanities conferences. Prof. Franco Niccolucci, PARTHENOS’ coordinator, commented on the GA’s decision,”We are very pleased to have DARIAH officially on board. This decision is the natural consequence of PARTHENOS’ long-standing effort to pool and rationalise the most important initiatives in each of the scientific areas addressed by the project.”

PARTHENOS stands for “Pooling Activities, Resources and Tools for Heritage, E-research, Optimization and Synergies”. PARTHENOS empowers digital research in the fields of History, Language Studies, Cultural Heritage, Archaeology, and related fields across Digital Humanities. The project will run until 2019.

DARIAH is a pan-european infrastructure for arts and humanities scholars working with computational methods. It supports digital research as well as the teaching of digital research methods. DARIAH connects several hundreds of scholars and dozens of research facilities in Europe. People in DARIAH provide digital tools and share data as well as know-how. They organize learning opportunities for digital research methods, like workshops and summer schools, and offer training materials for Digital Humanities.
