Amelia is Full Professor of Medieval History and National Coordinator for Portugal. Since 2008 she is part of the European Association for Urban History Scientific Committee, and chaired this Association between 2012 and 2014. Her research focuses predominantly around the articulation between space and power, in the urban contexts of Medieval Portugal. She managed two projects sponsored by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and collaborates in international research projects on a regular basis. She is author, co-author and editor of 18 books and a few dozens of articles. She is PI of the Infrastruture ROSSIO- Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities sponsored since 2017 by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia -FCT (3.184.046 €).
