  Manuscripts with Irish Associations (MIrA)

  Manuscripts with Irish Associations (MIrA) - Evidence for early Irish book culture, c. AD 600–1000 MIrA contains two elements: A catalogue of manuscripts relevant to the study of early Irish book culture (before AD 1000.) The core of the catalogue is c. 160 manuscripts probably written in Ireland and/or in Irish script (often written on the Continent). In addition, there are manuscripts written by named Irish scribes (not always in Irish script), thought to be from Irish exemplars, containing Irish texts, etc. A web-based digital resource for viewing and exploring manuscripts. This is written in PHP and based on data supplied in XML files. The resource is intended to be lightweight and easy to adapt to other projects. This resource aims to provide useful information for researchers on early Irish manuscript culture before c. AD 1000. ("Irish" here is shorthand for the broader Gaelic world, including early medieval Scotland.) The catalogue currently contains 301 manuscripts. Manuscripts are assigned to one or more categories.   Landed Estates: A database of landed estates and historic houses in Ireland

  Since 2005 the Irish Landed Estates project has undertaken the research for, and the publication of, a comprehensive and integrated resource guide to landed estates and historic houses in the provinces of Connacht, Munster and part of Ulster, c. 1700-1914. The aim of the guide is to assist and support researchers working on the social, economic, political and cultural history of these provinces from c.1700 to 1914. The project has received funding from the Irish Council for Research, the Heritage Council and the Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions. The project involved the distillation and collation of data from a broad range of historical sources, and the concise codification of these data on an estate/name basis.   Gloss Corpus

  Gloss Corpus is a platform for publishing and analysis of glosses on medieval manuscripts, based on Open Access and open standards for data. Contributors receive full credit for their work, with each edition of glosses assigned a unique DOI and persistent URL. Contributors also have the option to avail of peer-review. Gloss Corpus is a fully open-access, open-standards resource for the collaborative publication and study of glosses on medieval manuscripts. It aims to support the glossing research community by sharing resources and tools, including tools for data analytics and visualisation. This resource was developed by Professor Pádraic Moran (University of Galway). It builds on his earlier work on the digital edition of the St Gall Priscian Glosses. It now forms part of a broader research project, Global and Local Scholarship on Annotated Manuscripts (GLOSSAM), funded by Research Ireland, 2022–2026. Its editorial principles are: Contributors receive full credit for their own content. Editions are citable with unique DOIs and persistent URL. Editions may be optionally peer-reviewed by an editorial committee. Data, web application files and other resources can be found in the GlossCorpus GitHub repository.

  Theatronomics: the Business of Theatre, 1732-1809 Database

  Theatronomics aims to harness the data in the extant financial archives of Covent Garden and Drury Lane (1732–1809) to build a platform for a new generation of eighteenth-century theatre scholarship. There are a number of strands to this ambition. -Firstly, gathering, collating, and, where possible, scanning the various manuscript account books and ledgers that are extant. Working with the Folger Library to make available their rich collections related to theatre finance, particularly Drury Lane, on an open-access basis (those related to Covent Garden are largely available through a Gale database). -Secondly, inputting the financial information into a database and building some analytical tools and data visualizations so that scholars will be able to access the information in a meaningful way. Finally, we are going to use econometric approaches to bring a new level of statistical rigour to the analysis and to think about how we can best use financial data to generate new perspectives on cultural history. We are using and refining the data from the London Stage Database project to build a more detailed picture of the denizens of the theatres royal. If the analysis is to be meaningful, receipts and payments have to be mapped onto individuals, many of whom could not be unambiguously identified in the original coding. So there’s a lot of work in clarifying the identities of the thousands of individuals that appear in the London Stage Database, and then adding the thousands more new individuals that appear in the Biographical Dictionary and in the manuscript records themselves. The scale of the prosopographical work is challenging but vital to showcase just how many eighteenth-century London lives were connected to the theatres. Accessing the Data In addition to data being available to view through the resource, researchers have the ability to query and download raw data via the search system’s in-built export tools, or to access data programmatically using the system’s Application Programming Interface (API). Exporting Data Results from search queries are available to export in .csv format via the download button on the web interface. The downloaded data can be opened in software such as Excel, or a standard text editor. API Access Data may be accessed programmatically using the system’s RESTful Application Programming Interface (API). Data from the API is provided in JSON format.   This web resource is dedicated to capturing the extraordinary story of how sport has featured across the history of European cinema – and the fascinating insights relevant productions give us today into the development of specific sports, national cultures and European society more broadly. On this platform you will find an extensive database of primarily European fiction films featuring sport dating back to the first fiction production from 1910, Rogues of the Turf (UK). We invite and encourage you to explore the database, the information available there, related links to further information and (in some cases) streaming possibilities. The database allows you to create visualisations of some of the information gathered there. In addition to the database, this platform hosts case studies based on the research materials gathered, a list of relevant project publications, a bibliography of relevant texts on the subject of sport in the cinema, and a blog.

  Armarium

  Armarium is an Open Access, Open Source publishing platform for scholarly digital editions. It emphasises simple technical implementation, long-term preservation, citability, readability, and quality assurance. The primary goal of Armarium is to make it as simple as possible for researchers to publish their editions online. To that end, the technical barrier is kept as low as possible. Content should be supplied in XML, a format that is very easy to learn. More specifically, the XML should conform to the recommendations of the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI). You do not need to study the vast TEI guidelines, however. You can just read the short documentation and follow the XML templates. The core of this resource is the XML data underlying each edition. XML is an excellent format for long-term archiving. Both XML data and the website presentation are deposited and made publicly accessible in long-term data repositories (GitHub and Zenodo) to ensure access for future generations. A PDF version is also generated for each edition, to offer another archiving format. The technology behind the website (HTML, CSS and some very light PHP scripts) is kept as simple as possible, in order to minimise requirements for updating and maintenance. This supports the long-term stability of the web presentation. Data meets the FAIR principles as far as possible.

  Early Irish Glossaries Database

  The Early Irish Glossaries Project was a three-year project (2006–2009) based in the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at the University of Cambridge. The project produced this digital resource and a series of articles on the texts and contexts of early Irish glossaries (see Bibliography). An edition of both O'Mulconry's Glossary and Irsan was published in 2019. This digital resource provides: Transcriptions for most manuscript versions, with links to manuscript images and dictionary resources. Tools for generating concordances. Search tools: simple search and detailed search options. A bibliography (see also abbreviations).

  A multilingual tool that can process texts written in Basque, Spanish, and English. It is capable of extracting linguistic information, including: nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, named entities, and sequences of two, three or four words. The text could be the one that you have in a file, something that you will copy it here, or from a web page, but it should be encoded in UTF8. To use ANALHITZA, enter the text you want to analyze using one of the 3 below options, and then choose the language of your text (Basque, Spanish or English). After waiting a moment, you will get the results on an Excel file. Thus, you will be able to adapt the results to meet your requirements.

  AI models for historical text from Riksarkivet

  This code repository, hosted on Huggingface, provdies AI models developed with open source by the Swedish National Archives. Built to be applied to handwritten and printed text, primarily older than the 20th century. Areas of use: handwriting interpretation (HTR), language models, image/layout analysis and markup. The Swedish National Archives (Riksarkivet) primarily manage government records for future generations. Access to cultural heritage and authentic information that can be used for research, judicial matters, and public transparency is fundamental to our democratic society. Riksarkivet has identified a significant opportunity to establish an AI lab, known as AIRA (AI at Riksarkivet), to focus on research and development as well as product development within Riksarkivet. As a lab within a supervisory authority, we offer services, datasets, and models related to our public mission. We work primarily with Handwritten Text Recognition, semantic search, and Large/Vision Language Models (LLMs/VLMs). We share our training data and models on platforms like Huggingface and elsewhere. If you are interested in improving or utilizing our models, we would be delighted to collaborate!

  Film-poems are creative fragments of poetic text or speech accompanied by video and sound. Film poetry might also be referred to as video poetry, digital poetry, multimedia poetry, or using any terminology which reinforces the form's explicit combination of poetry and video. Film poetry belongs to the wider field of digital literature, which N. Katherine Hayles defines in her book, Electronic Literature: New Horizons for the Literary, as "a first-generation digital object created on a computer and (usually) meant to be read on a computer". Film-poems are arguably the most common form of digital literature among Irish writers and practitioners. This small archive has been curated by Dr James O'Sullivan (University College Cork)

  eCura: Multilingual Audio Database of Spoken and Sung Lyrics from Songs in Oral Tradition - Yi, Bai and Miao languages

  The “Multilingual Audio Database of Spoken and Sung Lyrics from Songs in Oral Tradition” collects the audio recording of commonly used words in the Yi, Bai and Miao languages that refer to music and dance genres and activities among ethnic minority communities, which mainly exist in their oral tradition. Taking the audio recording of the words as a central point, ECura project connects these words to their corresponding written scripts (using Chinese, English and International Phonetic Alphabet). Users from Yi, Bai and Miao language groups can access and browse materials through their Indigenous languages. External viewers interested in these traditions can access materials via English, Chinese or IPA.
