13 DARIAH Working Groups will receive funding from a recent WG Funding Call. The money is allocated to support their voluntary work and strengthen their role in DARIAH. “The question was how to enable the working groups to reach their objectives more effectively – not only through voluntary work but with a real recognition of the DARIAH-ERIC”, explains DARIAH’s CIO Andrea Scharnhorst.
The groups could request funding up to 5,000 EUR for their activities. These include software development, the organization of conferences, seminars, workshops and lecture series, conducting network meetings, as well as the production of promotional materials and web development. The proposed activities had to be centered around the following themes:
New research methods,
Services development and scalability,
Sustainability,
Dissemination,
Growing DARIAH.
Funding allocated under this scheme supports established DARIAH Working Groups that are currently approved and working. It offers practical help for their programmes, encourages working groups to put forward innovative ideas, to run initial programmes, and build up capacity to suggest new services or help develop and sustain existing ones. The 13 DARIAH Working Groups receiving funding are:
WG Digital Methods and Practices Observatory (DIMPO)
WG Sustainable Publishing of (meta) data
WG Lexical Resources
WG Image Science and Media Art Research
WG Federated Identity Management for DARIAH
WG Impact Factors and Success Criteria
WG Thesaurus Mentainance
WG DH Course Registry
WG Ethics and Legality in the Digital Arts and Humanities
WG Text and Data Analytics
WG Women Writers in History
WG Medievalist’s Sources
WG Community Engagement
The call itself was issued by DARIAH’s Coordintion Office (DCO) and designed together with the DARIAH Board of Directors (BoD). The review panel consisted of members of DARIAH’s Scientific Advisory Board, Heads of DARIAH’s Virtual Competence Centers, the BoD, as well as the DCO, the DARIAH Coordination Office. The call was issued for the first time this year, and will become a regular funding scheme to support working group activities.
