Visual Media and Interactivity

Home ActivitiesWorking Groups

Overview

The Working Group on Visual Media and Interactivity tries to build a main contact point for DARIAH members that are interested in the use of visual media and interactivity, be it as a focus of their studies or as a means to drive their research and dissemination activities further. In our understanding the term Visual Media encompasses therefore any of the following: 2D images, enhanced image types, 3D models, video, terrain and GIS. Even though these are common resources in Digital Humanities (DH), the average knowledge of DH scholars on the topic is still low. Further efforts to increase awareness on impact and practical use of those media and of the related tools are needed.

In order to tackle this problem we plan to invest time and effort in: increasing awareness on available tools; contributing to the development or customisation of visual tools to better fit DH requirements; offering training opportunities; recollecting examples of good practices or success stories.

By doing so, we aim to contribute to community building and real interaction, resulting in a better understanding for DH competence centres within Europe.
