1st General VCC Meeting, Utrecht
The first General VCC meeting took place on 2 – 3 April 2012 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The meeting was attended by over 75 participants from 15 countries who met to talk about the kind of DARIAH activities that take place in their country and what they expect from DARIAH.
Henk Harmsen, VCC Chief Integration Officer (CIO), from our hosts, DANS, opened the meeting. Henk invited participants to “Board the DARIAH train!”, emphasising the importance of making the journey to develop DARIAH together. The two panel sessions facilitated by Tobias Blanke sparked some interesting discussions around what is expected from DARIAH. The first session explored how DARIAH could support a wide range of institutions in their day-to-day work.
The second session looked at how DARIAH could support the work of both individual researchers and European-wideresearch initives such as EHRI (European Holocaust Research Infrastructure) and NeDiMAH (Network for Digital Methods in the Arts and Humanities).
The parallel VCC sessions were a core element of the meeting. In these breakout sessions, participants had the opportunity to discuss and further define the tasks of the VCCs, to name task leaders and prepare the ground for future collaboration.
