SUMMARY:Workshop: Digitizing the Materiality of the Premodern Book
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is organised and hosted by the University of Graz
 .\n\nThe foundational skills at the intersection of digitization\, bibliog
 raphy\, and the Digital Humanities are crucial for many scholars\, yet ins
 truction frequently only covers one maybe two of these intersecting aspect
 s. For example\, use of the Text Encoding Initiative XML standard is incre
 asingly the norm in digital scholarly editing\, but many individuals worki
 ng with textual materials do not have access to relevant scholarly trainin
 g in DH. Conversely\, many DH departments\, lack rare book specialists. Th
 e goal of this workshop is to create one succinct class where students wil
 l learn the necessary skills for understanding how the materiality of pre-
 modern books can be digitized and provide a foundation for putting those s
 kills into practice. After attending this workshop\, students will underst
 and the fundamentals of digitization and how books and manuscripts are des
 cribed in the TEI\, including the msdescription and transcription modules.
