SUMMARY:Virtual Workshop Twin Talks 3: Understanding and Facilitating Colla
 boration in DH
DESCRIPTION:Call for Workshop Papers – New Deadline: 13 July!\nWorkshop (
virtual): “Twin Talks 3: Understanding and Facilitating Collaboration i
 n DH”\, at the Virtual Digital Humanities Conference DH 2020\, 20-25 J
 uly\, 2020.\nConference website: https://dh2020.adho.org\nWorkshop websit
 e: https://www.clarin.eu/event/2020/twintalksdh2020\nWorkshop date: some
time during the conference week\, to be announced in the week of June 15\
 nSubmission deadline:  13 July 2020\nSubmission URL: https://easychair.o
 rg/conferences/?conf=twintalksdh2020\n\nFor more information\, please sen
d an email to: clarin@clarin.eu.\n\nAbout the Twin Talks workshop\n\nThis
workshop is the third in a series where the main objective is to get a be
tter understanding of the dynamics on the Digital Humanities work floor wh
ere humanities scholars and digital experts meet and work in tandem to sol
ve humanities research questions. The best way to do this seems to be to g
ive both parties the opportunity to present their achievements and to shar
e their collaboration experiences with the audience. The insights gained s
hould help those involved in the education of humanities scholars\, profes
sionals and technical experts alike to develop better training programmes.
\n\nAs the problem of cross-discipline collaboration is not new we also in
vite those who have relevant experience or interesting ideas about how to
address this in university or other curricula to share their ideas with th
e audience.\n\nIn earlier workshops talks were submitted and presented by
a humanities researcher and a digital expert (the Twin Talks). They were a
sked to report on on-going or recently completed research carried out toge
ther\, both from their individual perspective (either humanities research
or technical)\, as well as on their collaboration experience. Recently we
added the talks by people with experience or interesting ideas about how c
ross-discipline collaboration is or can be addressed in curricula or other
training activities (the Teach Talks).\n\nThe workshops were typically sc
heduled as full-day workshops\, starting with an invited talk\, followed b
y a number of 20-30 minutes presentations\, and concluded with a round tab
le discussion with all participants.\n\nFormat of the workshop\n\nDue to t
he coronavirus the DH2020 conference will go virtual\, and so will the Twi
n Talks 3 workshop. This has consequences for the format.\n\nThe duration
of the virtual workshop will be 2 hours\, and it will have an interactive\
, panel-like format\, with short pitches (duration dependent on number of
accepted talks). The Twin Talk pitches should briefly describe (i) the res
earch problem addressed\, (ii) its solution\, including the technical aspe
cts\, (iii) a report on the collaboration experience itself\, including ob
stacles encountered and (iv) recommendations how better training and educa
tion could help to make collaboration more efficient and effective.\n\nThe
Teach Talks should briefly describe (i) the collaboration settings on whi
ch they are based\, (ii) the approach adopted\, and (iii) recommendations.
\n\nAfter the talks there will be a discussion with all participants to fo
rmulate the lessons learned from the presentations\, and to identify furth
er steps that could be taken.\n\nResearch and teaching topics\n\nAll human
ities research topics in a very broad sense are welcome\, where we explici
tly include social sciences and cultural heritage studies. Research or tea
ching activities may be completed or ongoing\, as long as the presentation
explicitly addresses the way the humanities researcher and the digital ex
pert have collaborated or still collaborate.\n\nWhy should you submit and/
or attend?\n\nHumanities research can only benefit maximally from new deve
lopments in technology if content and digital experts team up\, very simil
ar to the hard sciences where research is done in teams working on a speci
fic problem\, where everybody brings in his/her specific content and techn
 ical expertise and skills.\n\nCo-design\, co-development and co-creation a
re the rule rather than the exception\, but very little is known about how
this collaboration works in practice and how better training and educatio
n of both humanities scholars and digital experts could facilitate the way
they collaborate. This is what this workshop wants to address\, based on
real life collaboration examples. We especially invite researchers\, profe
ssionals\, educators\, and RI operators with a special interest in creat
ing the conditions where humanities scholars and technical experts can fru
itfully collaborate in answering humanities research questions.\n\nSubmiss
ion instructions\nFormat: PDF. For format instructions\, see: https://www

Size: Abstracts\, size ca 250-500 words\, covering research questions and
answers\, technical aspects and collaboration experience for Twin Talks\,
or relevant education experience for Teach Talks\nPublication: A book of a
ccepted abstracts will be published on the workshop website 1 week before
the workshop.\nAuthors of accepted papers will be invited to submit an ext
ended version of their abstract (2000-4000 words) to be published in the j
oint proceedings of the TwinTalks 2 and TwinTalks 3 workshops\, to be publ
ished on ceur-ws.org in October 2020\, submission deadline September 8.\nS
