SUMMARY:International Workshop: Digital Integrated Strategies to Safeguard
 Heritage Construction Technologies
DESCRIPTION:The international workshop DIGITAL INTEGRATED STRATEGIES TO SAF
EGUARD HERITAGE CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES is funded by the “DARIAH Fundi
ng Scheme for Working Group Activities 2023-2025” programme\, which supp
orts the Working Groups of DARIAH ERIC\, specifically the new ARCHETIPO Wo
rking Group\, encouraging the development of innovative projects\, new ser
 vices\, tools\, and training activities.\n\nThe workshop\, organized by th
e Institute of Heritage Science of the CNR\, in collaboration with the Cyp
rus Institute and the University of Catania\, with the support of the Muni
cipality of Poggioreale\, is dedicated to discussing and developing initia
tives to improve the conservation and management of cultural heritage thro
ugh advanced digital technologies\, promoting collaboration among various
working groups and resource sharing.\n\nThe workshop aims to promote a dig
ital approach to the conservation\, restoration\, and reuse of tangible an
d intangible heritage knowledge related to construction technologies. The
event intends to strengthen ties with local communities\, including schola
rs\, researchers\, and authorities\, facilitating the exchange of knowledg
e in the fields of architecture and Digital Humanities. The expected outco
mes will contribute to DARIAH’s mission of advancing research in the hum
anities through the development of original databases\, access to resource
s\, and the development of digital skills. The dissemination of the knowle
dge produced by the workshop through the DARIAH-Campus will increase the v
isibility and accessibility of digital methodologies and strategies.\n\nDu
ring the workshop\, discussions and practical field sessions will focus on
implementing digital methodologies and strategies in researching informat
ional models capable of systematically representing the rules and systems
of construction art in specific geographic and historical contexts within
the European territory. The potential of HBIM (Heritage Building Informati
on Modelling) will be explored as a key tool in architectural heritage man
agement and restoration\, applying best practices in data acquisition\, ma
nagement\, and sharing processes.\n\nThe workshop will bring together inte
rnational experts in the fields of architecture\, engineering\, conservati
on\, and technology to explore the potential of HBIM modelling as a key to
ol in managing and restoring historical buildings. Participants will have
the opportunity to learn the best practices in the data acquisition proces
s\, from 3D scanning to data collection\, and the subsequent creation of B
IM models respecting good practices of knowledge representation for data i
nteroperability.\n\nOrganisation of the Days \n\nThe workshop is structure
d over four days\, alternating between lectures and presentations by natio
nal and international experts in the classroom\, field activities for appl
ied experimentation on a section of the ancient city of Poggioreale (2D an
d 3D surveying\, reading of building evidence\, analysis of historical con
struction technologies)\, and practical laboratory activities with data pr
ocessing and digital production.\n\nTheoretical Sessions and Lectures \n\n
Participants will have the opportunity to attend theoretical sessions and
lectures conducted by experts. These sessions will provide an in-depth ove
rview of theories\, concepts\, and best practices in the field of architec
tural heritage conservation. Topics might include surveying methodologies\
, digital modelling techniques\, conservation principles\, and much more.
This part of the day will provide a theoretical foundation for the practic
al activities in the afternoon.\n\nPractical Field Activities and Data Pro
cessing \n\nIn the afternoon\, participants will move to the field to put
into practice what they have learned during the theoretical sessions. They
will be guided by experts through practical surveying activities and anal
ysis of building evidence directly on the historical site of Poggioreale.
Once the field activities are completed\, participants will have the oppor
tunity to return to the laboratory to process and analyze the collected da
ta. They will use specialized software to create digital models\, visualiz
e results\, and conduct in-depth analyses. This part of the workshop will
allow participants to acquire practical skills and work directly with cutt
ing-edge tools and technologies.\n\nWho Can Participate \n\nUniversity stu
 dents\, experts\, researchers\, scholars\, professionals\, and public admi
nistration officials involved in the fields of architecture\, archaeology\
 , engineering\, and urban planning.\n\nAreas of Application \n\nDocumentat
ion\, conservation\, and enhancement of architectural heritage\, historic
centers\, instrumental surveying systems\, scan to BIM.\n\nScientific Boar
