SUMMARY:Facilitating archival research on the study of the turbulent 1940s
DESCRIPTION:Online event | Thursday\, September 10th\, between 14.00 and 16
.00 CEST\nAn online discussion on the particularities and challenges of di
gital archives and collections holding resources on the turbulent 1940s.\n
About this Event\n\nIn the context of the Greek Infrastructure for Digita
 l Arts\, Humanities and Language Research and Innovation\, APOLLONIS\, a d
esignated Task Force led by DCU/IMSI/ATHENA R.C. focuses on identifying
and supporting the workflows that researchers need to follow to perform sp
ecific research while jointly accessing disparate archives.\n\nUsing the d
ecade of 1940s as a use case\, a turbulent period in Greek history due to
 its significant events (WWII\, Occupation\, Opposition\, Liberation\, Civi
l War)\, the Task Force assembled digitized historical archives\, coming f
rom different providers and shedding light on different historical aspects
of these events.\n\nWhen this work is finalized\, the users of APOLLONIS
will be able to explore this content in new and innovative ways\, with acc
ess to different and disparate archives as well as to curated and enriched
resources. Moreover\, the users will be offered different curation and co
ntent analysis workflows\, which they will be able to perform themselves b
oth within and outside the infrastructure.\n\nBased on this work and in co
llaboration with Europeana Research\, we would like to invite you to join
discussions in a digital panel which will seek to address and expand on t
he following questions:\n\nWhat are the particularities of archives and co
llections holding resources on the 1940s?\nWhat are the users’ needs whe
n interacting with archival resources on the 1940s?\nWhat are the main cha
llenges faced by archives and collections holding resources on the 1940s?\
nHow can we deal with the heterogeneity\, both in terms of structure and s
emantics?\nWhat are the digital tools one can use in order to integrate re
sources and study them as a whole?\nWhat if users are unfamiliar with the
methods and tools available?\n\nList of Speakers:\n\nMaria Spiliotopoulou
(Researcher\, Modern Greek History Research Centre\, Academy of Athens\,
National Coordinator for DARIAH-GR)\, Digital history portals: a tool for
modern Greek history\n\nStathis Pavlopoulos (Historian\, Contemporary So
