Call for Applications: DARIAH-EU is looking for three vacant VCC head positions

By Eliza Papaki | Home Page News, News | May 5, 2022

DARIAH-EU is calling for applications for three vacant VCC (Virtual Competence Centre) head positions for:

VCC1 – e-Infrastructure

VCC2 – Research and Education Liaison

VCC4 – Advocacy, Impact and Outreach

Main tasks and responsibilities of VCC heads

Together with DARIAH’s Chief Integration Officer, all VCC heads form the Joint Research Committee (JRC), one of the operational bodies in the DARIAH governance.

The JRC organises the scientific and technical integration of DARIAH activities. More particular its members:

– participate in the annual DARIAH Strategic Days
– act in the Programme Committee of the DARIAH Annual Event
– review submissions to the DARIAH Contribution tool

The JRC meets bi-monthly virtually, and at least once in a year face to face. Another important task of a VCC head is to work closely with the DARIAH Working Groups, monitor their activities and accredit new ones.

We expect from the new VCC heads affinity and experiences in the area she/he applies for (VCC1, VCC2 or VCC4), next to innovative ideas on the directions the DARIAH community should go to and how.

Who should apply

We solicit applications from interested individuals from DARIAH partner institutions. The position of a VCC head is linked to the engagement of a DARIAH partner institution within a DARIAH member country (to be called the VCC Chair) and usually means a commitment of 3 years. Please be aware that in case of a selection, your responsibility is formalised with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with your institution.

If interested, we advice you explore the in-principle support of your home institution. Please also note that this appointment is not a paid position. The MoU ensures that your institution will give you time to the extent of approximately 180 hours per year to fulfill the tasks. In turn, work for the JRC is eligible as official contribution of your country to DARIAH (so-called in-kinds). Primarily, the VCC function is a great way to engage in DARIAH and to shape its future.

The next f2f JRC meeting will take place at the upcoming DARIAH Annual Event, on May 31-June 3, 2022 in Athens, Greece and it would be great opportunity for the new VCC heads to participate there.

Application and Selection Procedure

The decision process on these positions is as follows: The Board of Directors will ask the Joint Research Committee to access and review all applications and to come with an advice within one month. The Board of Directors will communicate the decision in writing, and consequently the VCC Chair (your institution) shall sign the Memorandum of Understanding.

If you are interested, please send an application containing a CV and a half page motivation letter to dariah-cio@dariah.eu by May 17, 2022. Please contact the DARIAH CIO Team if you have further questions (or need more time).
