DARIAH is pleased to welcome Vicky Garnett as the new Training and Education Officer. Vicky, who will be based in Trinity College Dublin, will work closely with colleagues across the DARIAH community to develop and nurture new opportunities for training provision and enhance existing training materials.
Vicky Garnett comes to DARIAH following her work developing and editing training materials for the PARTHENOS Training Suite, on which she has worked since 2015. In addition to this role, she has also been a Co-Chair of the DARIAH Community Engagement Working Group along with Eliza Papaki (DARIAH Communications Officer) since 2017.
Prior to this, Vicky was involved in the European Cloud project, investigating user requirements for digital resources in large collections held within the Europeana Foundation. She has also contributed to the DigCurV project, which created the Curriculum Framework for Digital Curation.
“I’m looking forward to picking up the reins where Debs (Thorpe) left off and working with colleagues across DARIAH to develop and enrich DARIAH’s training provisions,” says Vicky. “It’ll be a steep learning curve, but it’s a challenge I’m relishing, as research outreach and education has long been a passion of mine”.
In addition to her work in Digital Humanities, Vicky is in the final year of her PhD, investigating language change in her home county of Somerset, England. Her enthusiasm for linguistics extends to outreach and education, and she developed and coordinated the Dublin Language Garden, an annual outreach event that ran for four years between 2014-2017. She also recently devised and coordinated the 3-day International Spatial Humanities Sprint Camp (iSHCamp), held in Dublin in October 2019.
