DARIAH is very pleased to welcome a new cooperating partner based in Switzerland. The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics is now part of the Swiss dynamic already composed of eight universities and academies that have joined DARIAH as cooperating partners. Switzerland belongs to the six DESIR accessing countries and is developing a DARIAH-CH consortium with eight partners institutions in order to support its request of full membership candidature, under the lead of the SAHSS.
The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics is an academic not-for-profit organization whose mission is to lead and coordinate the field of bioinformatics in Switzerland. Its 800 data science experts join forces to advance biological and medical research and enhance health. The Institute helps shape the future of life sciences, by providing life scientists and clinicians in academia and industry with world-class bioinformatics resources and services, and by leading and coordinating the field of bioinformatics in Switzerland. The decentralized, federating organizational structure of SIB is a model for countries setting up their own bioinformatics infrastructure, as well as for the European bioinformatics program ELIXIR, which has adopted the hub and nodes model.
Claire Clivaz, SIB DARIAH representative, is head of Digital Humanities+, where she is leading projects in digital humanities such as the SNF PRIMA MARK16 project. The Group will be bringing bioinformatics practices, such as data management or data visualization, to the field of human sciences. Involved in DARIAH activities for several years, Claire Clivaz has also welcomed in Lausanne the closing event of the strategic partner at Erasmus+ #dariahteach, in March 2017.
