DARIAH-EU would like to thank Marcin Werla, who served as VCC3 head for the last couple of years in a very engaging manner. Due to a career change, Marcin will not be able to continue his work for DARIAH, and the VCC Chair has appointed Tomasz Parkoła. The JRC welcomes Tomasz wholeheartedly.
Tomasz Parkoła is the Head of Digital Libraries and Knowledge Platforms, Department at Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (Poznań, Poland) where he manages research & development teams responsible for digital humanities infrastructure, products and services for digital libraries as well as the Polish Federation of Digital Libraries.
Tomasz has been involved in national and international projects on digital humanities and cultural heritage topics for many years. He has worked on text collation software (CollateX) with Huygens Institute, conversion engine for TEI (ENRICH Garage Engine) with OUCS, ground-truth historical dataset in the IMPACT Center of Competence as well as on multiple public digital repositories of scientific and cultural heritage materials, being an important asset in digital humanities research. Apart from that, he has in-depth experience in design, development and deployment of production-level services for research and education, e.g. transcription tools, archives of social life related materials or specialized repositories for historical documents. He is also involved in data and metadata aggregation activities on national (Polish Federation of Digital Libraries) and international level (Europeana).
Tomasz was a national coordinator for the EIFL-FOSS programme (2010-2013). Since 2011 he is a board member in the IMPACT Centre of Competence and since 2016 he acts as a scientific and technology director of this Centre. He was a PC member for iPRES 2014, iPRES 2016 and DATeCH 2017. He is an author or co-author of several dozens of scientific and popular science publications. Tomasz is a software engineer by training with further education on project management (PMP®) and user experience (UX-PM L2).
