The main task of a VCC (Virtual Competence Centre) head is to work closely with DARIAH Working Groups. Together with DARIAH’s Chief Integration Officer, all VCC heads form the Joint Research Committee (JRC), one of the operational organs in the DARIAH governance. The JRC organises the scientific and technical integration of DARIAH activities. It does so by means of monthly virtual meetings, at least once in a year face to face, and by being involved in activities of DARIAH themselves.
A detailed description and the function of the VCCs can be found here.
Currently, DARIAH-EU is in a process of consolidation. We expect from the new VCC head affinity and experiences in the area he/she applies for, next to innovative ideas about where the whole DARIAH community should go to and how.
Formally, DARIAH Partner Institutions wishing to chair a Virtual Competency Centre (VCC) shall apply in writing to the Board of Directors. Concretely, we solicit applications from individuals from those institutions. Be aware that in case of selection your responsibility is formalized with a Memorandum of Understanding with your institution (called the VCC chair). So, it makes sense to explore the in-principle willingness of your home institution. Please note that this appointment is not a paid position. This MoU ensures that your institution will give you time to fulfill the tasks. In turn, work for the JRC is eligible as official contribution of your country to DARIAH (so-called in-kinds). Please, have a look at the template of the MoU for further details. Primarily, the VCC function is a great way to engage in DARIAH and to shape its future.
It would be great if the new VCC head could participate at the DARIAH Annual meeting, which will take place in Warsaw on May 14-17 2019.
If you are interested in this position, please send an application containing a CV and a half page motivation letter to dariah-cio@dariah.eu not later than 20th January, 2019.
Please contact dariah-cio@dariah.eu if you have further questions.
The decision process on the position is as follows: The Board of Directors will ask the Joint Research Committee to access and review any application and to come with an advice within one month. The Board of Directors will communicate the decision in writing, and consequently, the VCC chair (your institution) shall sign the Memorandum of Understanding.
