The DH Course Registry has been relaunched during DARIAH’s Annual Event. It is an open, online inventory of digital humanities modules, courses and programmes in Europe.
Originally developed by DARIAH’s Virtual Competence Center “Research and Education”, the DH Course Registry has now been relaunched as a joint effort of the European research infrastructures CLARIN ERIC and DARIAH-EU. In the future it will be further developed and maintained as a joint effort of the two ERICs.
Information for students, researchers and administrators
The DH Course Registry currently covers a selection of digital humanities courses offered by European academic organisations. It provides information for students and researchers who intend to take up study in the field of Digital Humanities, as well as lecturers who are looking for good practices in this field or want to promote their own DH-related teaching activities and material, and administrators who aim to attract and facilitate staff mobility and exchange.
Students, lecturers and researchers can search the database on the basis of related disciplines, topographical information (location), ECTS credits or the academic degrees that are awarded. In addition, it is possible to search for courses based on DARIAH’s TaDiRAH, a Taxonomy of Digital Research Activities in the Humanities (including labels for techniques and objects) and sub-disciplines from the Social Sciences and the Humanities (SSH).
A showcase of pan-European collaboration
The DH Course Registry was developed within DARIAH’s Working Group “Training and Education”, which is part of the consortium’s Virtual Competence Center “Research and Education”. A fine showcase of European collaboration, the registry has been conceptualized, realized and sustained by colleagues from The Netherlands, Germany, France and Austria, with additional data and feedback provided by colleagues from Switzerland, Ireland, Spain, Serbia and many more. It will now be maintained by a new DARIAH working group, WG “DH Course Registry”, in which members of CLARIN and DARIAH work jointly. Additionally CLARIN hired developer Hendrik Schmeer to make the relaunch possible and ensure further technical improvement.
A living project
The Course Registry is a living project: CLARIN and DARIAH will constantly add more information on DH training in Europe and beyond. Users are encouraged to also suggest courses and programmes: https://registries.clarin-dariah.eu/courses/contact/us
National moderators
The service is as inclusive as possible and only enforces some very basic restrictions in order to keep the information in the database relevant and DH-focused. Apart from that, for each country that is represented in the Course Registry, a dedicated National Moderator will be appointed to ensure the accuracy of the database, curate the data and reach out to students, lecturers and administrators in their respective countries.
